Specifically, Deputy Minister Christos Triandopoulos exclusively stated to the political.gr newspaper that “in ten days from the opening of the first aid platform, it is expected that the payment of compensation money for those affected by the fire in Northeast Attica will begin”, as a key government official the goal is to start the payment from the last days of August.
“We have done it in all the other cases, so I think there will be no problem to do it here as well. And we always move so that first aid arrives as quickly as possible. That is why we want the autopsies to be done very quickly so that the citizens have the documents in their hands to upload them to the platform afterwards. It takes us a day or two until the payment is made by the Ministry of Finance, so the goal is for all of this to move quickly,” said the responsible minister, who has been working feverishly for the last few days.
“It’s a first aid”
“All the bureaucratic procedures have been prepared, the meetings of the committees have been held, the KYA have been prepared and now we are in close cooperation with the AADE so that by August 21 the first aid platform, arogi.gov.gr, will be opened, where the our fellow citizens who have damage to their homes or businesses will be able to apply for first aid. We provide first aid instead of housing assistance of 5,000 and 10,000 euros to citizens whose houses or buildings have been damaged. And when we refer to “yellow”, they are the buildings that have suffered damage, but are temporarily unsuitable and repairable, and “red” are the unsuitable buildings that our committees that are in the field from the first moment issue demolition protocols”, pointed out Mr. Triandopoulos.
At the same time, he emphasized that “essentially, it is a first aid to be able, together with the private engineers, to prepare the repair file, to be submitted to the competent agency. We also have an office in the area. It is the TAEFK of Eastern Attica so that citizens can submit to proceed after the part of the housing assistance that covers up to 80% […]”, while he also added that “at this moment, the echelons of our ministry are already there and they are doing autopsies in the area.
There have been 103 autopsies up to 2-3 hours ago and they are continuing as we speak so we will have the data and I can give it to you – for the data we have so far in terms of buildings and houses – while there are another 10 levels in terms of business. They are echelons, they are state aid committees of the region with which we again cooperate. So they’re out in the field right now doing autopsies on both homes and businesses. There, it is done in cooperation with the municipalities regarding the houses, that is, our levels come to an agreement with the municipality and municipal officials point them out and visit house-by-house so that the damage can be recorded”. Regarding the opening of the platform, he pointed out that “the citizen will make the application and upload the document that he will have received from the echelons that have checked that it is “red” or “yellow”. So in every house where the stairs are inspected, the civil engineers who have gone out register and say this house is “yellow”, it is “red” or it is “green”.
At 80% the housing assistance
Based on the measures that have been announced, housing assistance covers 80% of the rehabilitation, while the other 20% is an interest-free loan guaranteed by the State. According to the Deputy Minister of Civil Protection, “I was informed that the banks have also shown a willingness to cooperate with all those affected from the region. So yes, this is part of the housing assistance, while at the same time there is also a rent or cohabitation subsidy for all our fellow citizens who are beneficiaries, i.e. the framework of temporary housing is activated”.
“Essentially, we provide either a rent subsidy of up to 500 euros – from 300 to 500 euros – depending on the size of the family and its characteristics, while at the same time, if there are areas where it is not easy for someone to rent a house, we also provide cottages, as we have done in other areas, always in the context of temporary housing, because our goal is to repair his house,” he explained.
In addition, Christos Triantopoulos said about the relevant measures that “the framework of state aid concerns businesses and we have been activated together with the region. The implementation arm of state aid to enterprises is the state aid commissions of the region.
Autopsies have already been carried out at several levels and until recently, in various areas, 22 businesses with small, large and medium damages – depending on the classification – were provided with first aid of 2,000 and 4,000 euros. This is a first aid that will be paid accordingly, as in the houses in the first days, after which 70% of the estimated damage will be covered. That is, the state aid committees of the region will come to an assessment of the damage and there the state will cover 70%”.
