The intense heat wave that is causing temperatures to skyrocket across Italy began on July 7-8 and continues today. But when will it end? The weather forecast at the moment they are discouraging. This long hot phase “will obviously continue until a date to be determined”, explain the experts of MeteoGiuliacci. This summer, it is recalled, the first heat wave on the Peninsula occurred in the first half of June, “and then practically had a single eternal hot wave” until this week of August and probably beyond. Temperatures are expected to exceed 40 degrees in some cases, an event that is now repeated with a frequency that was once unthinkable.
In fact, the 40 degree threshold was considered “an exception a few years ago, today it is increasingly common”, explains Elena Rava on the site that hosts the Colonel’s forecasts Mario Giuliacci. Not only that. Certain peaks were almost exclusively in the south, or at most in the centre, and only in the central part of the summer. “The heat waves have always existed, but their intensity, frequency and persistence have increased”, explains the expert who recalls how a year ago in July the temperatures reached 48 degrees in Sicily and Sardinia. Extreme peaks that this summer, at least for the moment, seem to have been averted.
