Unsustainable? Abandoned electric car depot found in China

Electric cars had a shy debut in the global market and little by little won the trust (and wallet) of drivers due to greater sustainability and economy compared to combustion models. Some governments offer tax breaks to consumers who opt for EV models, thereby spurring fleet growth.

Among the main automakers in the segment are Tesla, BYD, Volkswagen and Volvo, world leaders in the category that together sold more than 1.3 million units worldwide. Despite all the benefits of electric cars, a content creator shows the “other side of the coin” in video, revealing a car graveyard in China.

The Asian country leads in terms of production and sale of electric vehicles, offering some state subsidies to automakers that produce these models in Chinese territory. These incentives, however, may be causing some manufacturers to increase production in order to receive more from the State.

This hypothesis was raised following youtuber Winston Frederick, owner of the channel “Serpentza”, showed what appears to be a deposit of supposedly abandoned electric cars. In the video it is possible to identify BYD and Geely cars in excellent condition, in some cases still with the protective plastic that leaves the factory with the vehicle.

Those cars exposed daily to the sun, rain and other weather conditions can quickly become environmental problems due to batteries. Car power cells must be disposed of correctly to avoid environmental damage due to the chemical nature of their interior.

In this specific case there is no focus on sustainability even when it comes to electric cars. According to information, no automaker or Chinese government wanted to take a position on the matter.
