During its back-to-school keynote, Apple announced that its iPhone 15 would abandon its Lightning connection in favor of USB-C. But at what cost?
The iPhone 15 was finally officially unveiled on September 12 by Tim Cook during his back-to-school keynote. The opportunity to make an announcement that everyone has been waiting for: USB-C will finally be integrated into the iPhone 15, replacing Lightning, a charging connection that Apple launched in 2012 with the iPhone 5 .
The group is therefore taking the lead as the European Union will impose USB-C as the universal standard for all smartphones in 2024. If Apple took advantage of the keynote to make this announcement with great fanfare and to point out the advantages of this connection, the manufacturer also refrained from mentioning this European regulation, once morest which it was however firmly opposed.

But Apple is also known for additional costs which can quickly increase the bill, particularly for accessories. And another surprise on the Apple Store: you can already find a USB-C to Lightning adapter for 35 euros. In other words: Apple users who want to switch to USB-C will have to pay the price.
If you want to get rid of your Lightning connectors once and for all, you can buy a power adapter on the official website for 25 euros then a one-meter cable for 25 euros (35 euros for 2m length). The Thunderbolt 4 Pro cable at 69 euros can also be an option if you want to benefit from data transfer of up to 40 Gbits/s and fast charging of up to 100 watts.
Obviously, nothing prevents you from doing without Apple but the brand will not fail to remind you that it is its connectors that must be used.
