When Isabella Willingham (21) from the US state of Kentucky wakes up in the hospital, the student cannot remember anything. Her body is covered in cuts, bruises and bruises. Her artificial nails are missing. As if someone had torn it down.
The evening before, her family received a call from the university where the 21-year-old was studying. It was said that Isabella probably fell out of the bunk bed and is now being taken to the hospital. A roommate found her unconscious on the floor of her room. The ambulance saved Isabella’s life. Because the young woman had stopped breathing. 23 minutes long. Isabella had to stay in the hospital for two weeks to recover from her injuries.
The 21-year-old still suffers from the mysterious incident to this day. “She has no memory of anything from that day. She also doesn’t remember the day before when I brought her back to campus. “She has forgotten several things that happened during the semester,” says her father, Andy Willingham (59), to NBC News. His daughter has no history of mental illness or self-harm, Willingham said.
“The university is trying to cover up the matter”
Several US media outlets reported on the case from Kentucky, which occurred at the end of November. But even months later, it is unclear what happened to the 21-year-old that night. Her father, on the other hand, is certain: someone inflicted these injuries on his daughter. “What happened to her was pure torture,” he says. Isabella still fears for her safety today and is in therapy. He doubts the theory that his daughter could have fallen out of the bunk bed. He is convinced that the grille in front of the mattress should have prevented a fall. The doctors at the hospital also told him that the injuries indicated abuse or beating.
Father Willingham demands answers – and blames the university. “The university is trying to cover up the matter. They are more concerned with protecting their reputation than doing the right thing, protecting students and finding an answer.” The campus was only informed about the incident after a media report from a local newspaper. At that time, the university announced that it did not believe there was any danger to students. As the father claims, there was no call for all students to submit information about Isabella’s case. When he complained to the university management, they allegedly replied that they believed they had done everything they could.
When contacted by a local TV station, the university said it could not provide any further information at this time. The school is cooperating with law enforcement authorities. The sheriff in charge also told NBC News he could not comment on ongoing investigations. (sam)
