Unseen scandal in Poland: a parliamentarian in the Seimas extinguished a menorah with a fire extinguisher

Patrikas Michalskis, a journalist from the “Wirtualna Polska” portal, who was at the scene of the incident, posted a video on the X social network.

“Unseen scandal. Parliamentarian Grzegorz Braun extinguished the Hanukkah menorah with a fire extinguisher,” the journalist wrote.

Such an attack by MP G. Braun, as announced by the portal, took place a few minutes after 5:00 p.m. local time (after 6:00 p.m. Lithuanian time).

While filming, the journalist approached the member of the Seimas, asking “Mr. MP, what did you do?”

According to the statement, G. Braun said “I’m putting an end to this…” by exploding the fire extinguisher powder, which spread around the hall of the Seimas.

The Seimas services immediately responded to the situation, the employees urged the gathered to retreat.

G. Braunas is a far-right politician, elected to the Seimas with the pro-Russian “Confederation” party. This is not his first term. In 2015, he was also a candidate in the Polish presidential election.

In the past, he has falsely claimed that the aim is to turn Poland into a Jewish state.

Speaker of the Seimas Szymon Holownia condemned the incident and stated that anti-Semitic and xenophobic behavior will not be tolerated in the Polish Seimas. He also removed G. Braun from the Seimas hall and announced that he intends to refer the incident to the prosecutor’s office. He called the incident “absolutely scandalous.”

G. Braun himself said in the Seimas hall that other parliamentarians allegedly manipulate the facts, although they were not witnesses to what happened.

On the “X” network, he wrote: “There can be no place for racist, tribal, wild, Talmud worship on the territory of the Seimas of the Republic of Poland!”

Hanukkah celebrations were held in the Polish Seimas.
