144 United Nations delegates reportedly killed in Gaza’s ongoing Israeli offensive. This is the first time in the organization’s 78-year history that so many people have been killed in a single war. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres sent a letter of condolence to the relatives of the victims.

The workers of UNRWA, the United Nations relief agency for Palestine refugees, were killed. Many people have also been injured. Among those killed were teachers, school principals, health workers, doctors, engineers, psychologists and other employees.

UNRWA is the main UN agency working in Gaza. The agency was established in 1949, one year following the occupation of Israel.

The main objective is to provide the necessary services to the Palestinian refugees. The agency works in various sectors like education, health, relief, social service, infrastructure and financial assistance.

Flags at UN offices around the world were flown at half-mast in a sign of condolences following the killing of several UN representatives in Gaza.
