There are strict rules in Italy. But obviously not all holidaymakers adhere to this. A woman is now causing a stir in Rome with a curious action.
Rome – Historical architecture, culinary specialties and a Mediterranean atmosphere: Italy is always a popular summer destination, especially for German tourists. To ensure that their stay is pleasant, visitors on vacation should, as usual, endeavor to observe local customs. If you don’t want to risk a fine and thus reduce your holiday budget, you should know the special laws in Italy.
In any case, travelers should treat the ancient sights with respect, which can be seen above all in the capital Rome – including the imposing Colosseum, the Spanish Steps or the Trevi Fountain. A tourist recently didn’t take that too seriously. Her visit to the well-known fountain in Piazza di Trevi ended in scandal.

Holiday scandal in Italy: woman fills up drinking bottle at the Trevi Fountain in Rome
As a video on social media now shows, the tourist in Rome obviously did not follow the rules. The woman climbed over the historic fountain to fill up her drinking bottle at one of the fountains. “Bad idea,” wrote a user of the short message service X, formerly Twitter, regarding the recordings. After all, there are actually hundreds of drinking water fountains that are spread across the entire city of Rome and Ostia.

Numerous vacationers cavorted around the fountain and watched the spectacle of the woman standing in the middle of the city’s landmark. When the bottle was filled, she climbed back to join the rest of the visitors.

The video was originally made by the Irish editorial service provider Storyful published. The tourist Lex Jones had leaked the recordings to the company. “I was just like, wow, that’s crazy, so I started filming it,” she said Storyful. The other visitors were also confused by the signs. “There were signs everywhere saying it wasn’t allowed,” Jones said.
The action did not go unnoticed by the security service. Just before the video ended, the woman at the Trevi Fountain was alerted to her misstep with a shrill whistle. A security officer in a yellow safety vest headed towards the vacationer and finally led her away from the fountain. However, it is not known when the video was recorded.

The video caused some reactions on social media. “I’m so tired of people and their self-proclaimed privileges,” one user commented on the YouTube video and at the same time demanded a fine. “Did she actually want to drink the water?” asked another helplessly.
A tourist recently damaged the Colosseum during his vacation in Italy. He carved his girlfriend’s name on the structure, which will cost him a hefty fine. Overall, Italy is trying to counter the rush of holidaymakers with strict laws. (which)
