A 62-year-old woman was arrested as part of an investigation into an unresolved case dating from 2008, the Antwerp public prosecutor’s office said on Saturday.
In June 2008, a 27-year-old from Antwerp disappeared. According to the prosecution, he operated in the criminal world which made his disappearance worrying. His car was found six months following his disappearance in Roosendael, the Netherlands.
No major progress might be made in the investigation and no body was ever found. Three years ago, however, the case was reopened by the federal judicial police (PJF) in Antwerp and the judicial investigation resumed in 2021.
This gave rise to four searches last Thursday, carried out in Koekelberg, Edingen and Halle. The Antwerp PJF received help from the laboratory and the dog assistance service of the federal police. Two women, aged 62 and 70, were arrested and interviewed. They appeared before the investigating judge on Friday. The sixty-year-old was placed under arrest warrant while the seventy-year-old was released on conditions.
