The tenant of the apartment would have enriched himself by subletting his accommodation to several women.
Following an anonymous denunciation, the police recently carried out a check in an apartment in Ravelbergstraat in Deurne where several men entered and left every day, according to the witness. Several women are said to have stayed in the apartment, each time for a short period. During the check, the police actually found two Spaniards, who turned out to be sex workers and who were not registered in the national register.

The two women said they did not know each other and found the apartment through acquaintances. They were unable to produce a rental contract, but one said she paid 300 euros per week in cash for the apartment, and the other 400 euros per week.
“The risk of prosecution is real”
Police questioned the landlord of the flat, but he said he was unaware that it was sublet and that an extra bedroom had been made.
“Police findings show that vulnerable sex workers of foreign origin are residing in the apartment,” the city administration said. “The risk of continuation and repetition of these illegal practices is real. As the mayor can take individual measures if public order and safety are threatened, under articles 133 and 135 of the new municipal law, he has decided that the apartment should not be rented or made available to another way for a period of one month.
The police will carry out a new check following the imposed closure. In the meantime, the two women found have been referred to a counseling organization.
