One of the most popular graphics engines on the market, Unreal Engine, it was updated this week by Epic Games for their version 5.2which comes with good news — especially for users of Macs e iPads.
From now on, Unreal Editor runs natively on computers equipped with chips from the Apple Silicon family, which should bring more stability and performance to the tool on more recent Macs. According to Epic, it now runs in a universal binary, which means the editor will also continue to run perfectly on machines with Intel chips.
Another novelty that should call the attention of Apple users is the new app for on-scene ICVFX operations made for the iPad. It will allow filmmakers to use the Apple tablet’s touchscreen to perform a series of adjustments on virtual film sets, such as operating color grading and inserting light cards, for example.
According to Epic, this app will give more freedom to filmmakers, who will be able to use the iPad while walking around the studio to view their changes in real time. The developer, however, has yet to release a release date for the app.
In addition, Unreal Engine 5.2 also now has a framework procedural content generation (Procedural Content Generation, or PCG) that allows filling large scenes with resources from the graphics engine itself, speeding up the creation process. This new feature also brings a new runtime component that performs changes to the world in real time according to gameplay and geometry changes.
We still have the Substrate, a tool that allows you to change “the look and impact of objects in real-time applications”, such as games and linear content. Finally, there is a new sample of the ML Deformertechnology that uses machine learning to create high-fidelity characters in real time with skin and muscle deformations.
