2. Biagio Pilieri’s wife reported that the leader was charged with alleged “terrorism”

The national coordinator of the political party Convergence, Biagio Pilieri, said They charged His wife, Maria Livia Vasile, filed a complaint on Thursday, September 5, for five crimes, including “terrorism,” explaining that Pilieri was presented at a hearing without the presence of his “trusted lawyers.”

“My husband was brought before the court last Friday, August 30, without the presence of his trusted lawyers, with the assistance of a public defender. He also said that Pilieri has been in “unjust” detention for a week and that, so far, he has not been able to communicate with his family and defense team.

Opposition leader María Corina Machado accused Attorney General Tarek William Saab of being one of the main “harassers and violators of human rights” of Venezuelans.

“This Prosecutor’s Office is an arm of persecution and state terrorism in Venezuela; the appointment and performance of its spokesperson is not only illegitimate, it is a disgrace that history will judge,” he said on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, September 5.

Machado insisted on the victory of Edmundo González Urrutia in the presidential elections of July 28 and urged the country’s military and police to fulfill their constitutional duty.

“Edmundo González Urrutia is the President-Elect of Venezuela; Maduro knows it, the CNE knows it, the judges know it and the members of the National Armed Forces know it. Military citizens and police officers have a constitutional duty that they must fulfill,” he said.

Clara Fuentes won the gold medal in weightlifting in the -50 kilogram women’s powerlifting category at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games on Thursday, September 5.

Argentine President Javier Milei described the political situation in Venezuela as a “dictatorship” during his speech at the Third Regional Meeting of the Madrid Forum, held in Argentina. He also accused Nicolás Maduro of turning the country into “a human cemetery.”

7. 135 political prisoners were released in Nicaragua

The Nicaraguan Democratic Concertation (CDN-Monteverde) and the NGO Collective Nicaragua Never Again celebrated the release of 135 political prisoners from Nicaragua, who were exiled to Guatemala after negotiations with Washington and Managua.
