In order to provide information about Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, tomorrow, Saturday, the Sixth Meeting of Patients with OCD and their Families will be held in the city.
Coordinated by Dr. Yidha Ortiz Castillo, the event will take place at the “José Martí” Cultural Center starting at 4 in the afternoon. There will also be a health fair.
“It is important to talk about this topic because many people have no idea about the condition,” said Dr. Ortiz.
“From the first meeting we began to describe what the disease is, how family members can cope with it, how patients can learn to take care of themselves, but we have focused on medications,” he said.
In an interview with the Diario, he stressed that no medication is perfect and many times they have side effects or do not achieve the objective. OCD, he continued, affects two or three out of every hundred people in Mexico.
“One would think it was very strange, but really not (…) In the (Covid-19) pandemic, many began to raise their hands, we were able to visualize more things.”
In fact, he highlighted, another objective of the meeting is “for people who have any symptoms to realize that they are not broken, that they are not the only broken ones in the world, but that it is a medical condition and that there is treatment to resolve or reduce it.” ”.
“The goal is that they do not feel alone and that we can all support each other,” the doctor stressed.
The meeting will begin with an art therapy session by Dr. Ortiz. The technique, he noted, serves to reduce anxiety and obtain greater motivation.
Activation
There will also be physical activation sessions with Alexis Castillo and “mindfulness” sessions by Abigaíl Cetina Balam. Likewise, the specialist Ilse Gálvez Jurado will give the talk “The importance of physiotherapy.”
Attendees will also be able to see works and posters made by people with OCD.
During the event there will be measurements of capillary blood glucose, body mass index and blood pressure. The meeting is open to the public.— IVÁN CANUL EK
