This has not happened since 2019 in the region. And it’s a first in Drôme-Ardèche. Never before has there been a case of indigenous dengue fever. Analyzes confirmed it: two people were indeed infected even though they did not travel to areas affected by the disease. It was another person who was contaminated. She was then bitten by a tiger mosquito in Bourg-lès-Valence, a mosquito which then spread dengue fever.
Eliminate all adult mosquitoes
Hence the major mosquito control operation carried out in the district concerned, to eradicate all adult mosquitoes within a radius of 200 meters, or double their maximum flight distance. It was not a preventive operation like in Cornas in Ardèche at the beginning of September but rather a curative operation. Nine agents of the Interdepartmental Agreement for mosquito control sprayed insecticide at the maximum authorized dose, as close as possible to houses and on roads.
This type of treatment is obviously not neutral. Residents were asked to sleep with their windows closed and to bring their children’s toys inside. They are prohibited from eating fruits and vegetables from their garden for 48 hours. It now remains to identify the original case. A third suspected case is being analyzed and might be the person who brought dengue fever into the neighborhood.
