Unprecedented Autumn Heat: Exploring the Record-Breaking Temperatures and Climate Shifts in 2023

A September of all records and a start to October of the same ilk, nothing indicates that autumn has started more than a month ago, neither the temperatures, nor the nature, where the trees are still very green. Exceptional weather which raises questions but which should soon return to a certain normality. “We can finally talk regarding the return of autumn. This Wednesday, we will end the first decade of October in second place as the warmest since records began, notes Pascal Mormal, meteorologist at IRM. From Thursday, we will experience a first cooling with the return of the rain. And if Friday will be a little milder once more, the weekend will be variable and cooler.”

The mercury will therefore drop to around 14 degrees on Saturday and no more than 11 or 12 degrees for Sunday and the start of next week. “For the first time in a long time, we will find values below seasonal norms. With 23 degrees this Tuesday, we are 7 to 8 degrees above the average, which at this time of year is between 15 and 16 degrees.”

Good news, even if it will be much cooler. “During the second part of the week, we should see temperatures rise to around seasonal norms, but the whole week should give way to sunshine,” says the meteorologist. The weather will be influenced by rather cool continental currents but which will bring us sunshine.”

A foggy morning before the arrival of the sun with mild temperatures: here is the weather forecast for this Tuesday

But what should we expect for the rest of the season? “The month of October looks set to be much drier than normal, with temperatures around average. For the month of November, however, the models suggest the return of rainy conditions, and milder weather, with fairly active ocean flows.”

A type of weather that should be kept at the start of winter. “We are obviously talking regarding a fairly distant deadline, but the month of December promises to be similar to the month of November, which is not good news for those who like the cold and the snow.”

All this also suggests that the year 2023 will find its place among the hottest years on record. “If we stop the counter on Tuesday, October 9, we arrive at an average temperature of 13.2 degrees. For this period, 2023 ranks third among the hottest years. With seasonal model forecasts, we can estimate that this year will probably be in the top 5 hottest years, or even the top 3,” he concludes.
