Unofficial remake of Resident Evil Code: Veronica is closed – Capcom demanded to cancel the project

Last May became known on developing a fan remake Resident Evil Code: Veronica on the Unity Engine.

Shortly thereafter, the team of enthusiasts involved in the project, posted open access demo. The developers were determined to finish the remake, but it seems that these plans were not destined to come true, as Capcom demanded that development be stopped.

Creators closed the project’s website and posted a message on the main page stating that “Capcom has decided to cancel the project.” On their Discord server, the developers explained that this was not due to the fact that they were accepting donations, but due to the use of the franchise’s copyrighted title and characters. In addition to Resident Evil Code: Veronica, this team was engaged in a remake of the original Resident Evil in the same vein, but it also had to be canceled.

The original Resident Evil Code: Veronica came out in 2000 and was a spin-off of the series set between Resident Evil 3 and 4. Fans assumed that after the remake of the third part, Capcom would update Veronica, but this honor was awarded to Resident Evil 4.

In October, franchise producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi declaredthat now they have no plans for a remake of Resident Evil Code: Veronica, but he did not rule out that if they have the opportunity in the future, then such a project may appear.
