Counter-intelligence and investigators of the Security Service exposed the spy network of the elite unit of the FSB of the Russian Federation — the department of counter-intelligence operations — in Kyiv.

About this informs September 3 SBU.

The enemy cell consisted of four people, and its coordination in Ukraine was handled by a former People’s Deputy from the banned Party of Regions.

According to the case materials, this agent network was engaged in intelligence and sabotage work on the territory of our country. It had a hierarchical structure with clearly defined roles.

“In addition to the ex-deputy-curator, there were also: a saboteur, a supplier of explosive devices and an agent who specialized in external surveillance,” the report says.

According to the investigation, in case of successful execution of the enemy’s tasks, the ex-national deputy planned to expand his network and carry out sabotage in fact throughout the territory of Ukraine.

The law enforcement officers established that the agents planned a series of detonations on the tracks of Ukrzaliznytsia to disrupt the logistics of the Defense Forces.

In particular, the Russian special service set them a task: to blow up one of the tracks in the Kyiv region. The Armed Forces use it to transport equipment and personnel to the frontline regions. However, the SBU managed to prevent sabotage.

During a multi-stage special operation, the Security Service officers detained all four agents, including the former deputy of the People’s Republic of Ukraine.

“Another task of the network was to collect data on Ukrainian figures who were “of interest” to the Russian special services. In particular, the enemy tried to obtain data on places of residence and visits, daily schedule and social circle of certain persons. All this is for the purpose of further physical elimination of these figures,” the SBU said.

Ukrainian journalist Dmytro Gordon was among those for whom the Russian special services were preparing a contract killing.

During the searches, means of communication and electronic devices with evidence of intelligence and subversive activities in favor of the Russian Federation were discovered and seized from the detainees.

Currently, all four detainees are in custody. Depending on the crimes committed, they were notified of suspicion under the following articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

  • Art. 111 (treason);
  • Art. 113 (sabotage);
  • Art. 258 (terrorist act).

Earlier, ArmyInform reported that the Security Service and the National Police had neutralized a criminal group that was carrying out “orders” from the Russian Federation to commit arson in Ukraine.
