Stop being easily chained by your opponent
DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO offers a training mode that is unfortunately quite rudimentary and does not explain the mechanics of its gameplay very well in the way it is presented. But hey, if you really want to learn to play well, it’s a must. Here, we will tell you two or three gameplay elements to improve your way of playing, beyond what the game says. First of all, get in the habit of banning the sequence of basic rush attacks. As a reminder, if you hammer the basic attack button, it makes a combo which, after a while, will see your character teleport to his opponent then thrown to continue attacking him.
The problem with this teleport attack is that it is predictable and can be easily countered. in turn, as the artificial intelligence of the episode mode so well proves. Rather than creating an opening in your attack, we advise you to do chained Rushes, that is to say sequences which mix the basic attack button and kikohato vary the attack and not teleport you. In this way, you can attack your opponent for longer without the latter being able to counter, except with a vengeful counter which consumes a skill point which you can counter in turn with your perception.
Be unpredictable in your follow-up attacks
Following on from the previous advice, you will inevitably arrive at a moment where you will throw one of your opponents after an attack. While we advise you not to stupidly keep pressing the rush attack button which will do a predictable teleport attack, you have several options to surprise your opponent. First, you can make a follow-up attack with more unpredictable timing since your opponent can’t know exactly when you’re going to strike, making it more difficult to dodge. Next, you can press your perception button, which will cause your character to tackle their opponent, giving you a perfect opportunity to take a breather.
Know how to properly manage your Ki gauge
As in Budokai Tenkaichi 3, the Ki gauge is the central element of Sparking Zero’s gameplay. Thanks to it, you can perform special techniques, but above all use rushes to get closer to your opponent or even dodge one of their attacks. Managing this gauge is therefore crucial because it drops much faster than we imagine. As a precaution, it is better to always have a background of Ki at all times to react to all situations. To never have your gauge empty, we advise you, for example, not to stupidly rush at your opponent, whatever the reason. Conversely, Z-Lightning Rush should only be used to go behind an opponent’s back to dodge a special technique or to prevent the opponent from going into Sparking mode..
The other really important advice that we can give you is above all to take advantage of your opponent being thrown and unable to do anything to charge your Ki gauge. Not all characters recover this quickly, so this is the perfect opportunity to take advantage of this downtime to recover Ki, or even switch to Sparking mode. At the same time, we advise you to hide behind an element of the decor to charge Kibecause these can serve as protection if you are targeted with a special technique. Besides, speaking of special technique, we advise you not to overuse it. It costs on average three to four segments of the Ki gauge, which is enormous in terms of resource. Yet, Special techniques do a lot of damage, potentially removing a life gauge or more from your opponent. As with recharging Ki, we would tend to advise you to do it when your opponent is immobilewhether when he is on the ground after a throw or during a special technique that misses its target.
Correctly adjust the accessibility options
If you haven’t played Budokai Tenkaichi 3 or have lost your reflexes, you may feel a little overwhelmed by Sparking Zero’s gameplay. No shame in that, you just have to take a quick look at the options side to activate accessibility options that make your life easier on the aspects that you have difficulty mastering. You can choose to switch to semi-automatic, automatic mode or choose only certain aspects. This concerns both the offensive side such as combos, follow-up attacks, dragon rushes and the defensive part, which is often the most complicated, with guarding, recovery and avenging counters. As you gain experience, don’t hesitate to deactivate some of them one by one to begin to master them.
Do not neglect the effects of the capsules
In its training mode, Dragon Ball Sparking Zero doesn’t put much emphasis on capsules. However, these can still be very practical if you encounter difficulties. For example, if you encounter a fight in episode mode, the capsules can be very useful to you. To give a quick reminder of the facts, capsules are used in this game as equipment that can be assigned to a character to improve their statistics (life, attack, defense, speed, etc.), but also to strengthen certain actions (smash attack, Kikoha, etc.).
This way, you can strengthen your character before returning to face the enemy you encounter. To collect capsules, it’s very simple since they can be purchased in the store and we advise you to reserve your zenis to buy the best ones, rather than buying characters that you can obtain in another way.
