In the modern age, where information is moved at lightning speed through digital platforms, search engines and social networks, the traditional role of the library is changing, but without losing the least bit of its value. Libraries must evolve, incorporate new technologies and keep up with new trends to continue to serve their central mission as sources of reliable knowledge.
With this in mind, the Library of the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EBEA) was recently inaugurated, housed in the “Konstantinos Michalos” Entrepreneurship Center of EBEA.
Confirming its historical role, as an ally of entrepreneurship and development, the Chamber invested in the creation of this new structure, which aims to contribute to the training and development of its members, to the upgrading of communication with the business ecosystem of the country and the general public, but also in the promotion of research, innovation, lifelong learning.
It is essentially about the evolution of a collection of books and printed material, the core of which was created by the establishment of the Chamber. It is a special library that includes more than 5,000 volumes of monographs, as well as periodicals, mainly in the Greek language but also in foreign languages. It contains the entire publishing activity of EBEA, as well as old and rare publications, some from the beginning of the 20th century or even older. The subjects mainly concern commerce, industry, economy, business, administration and organization, law and legislation and history.
This material is now organized here, in a new purpose-built space – designed with high functionality in mind. The Library is equipped with the most modern technologies and has a wide range of services that meet the needs of the modern – digital – information society. In fact, her catalog is available through the electronic automated system of the National Documentation Center. The aim is the continuous, systematic enrichment of the collection with printed and digital material, through subscriptions to databases and electronic journals.
The EBEA Library is active again, to respond with quality to the needs of both members and the general public. With new tools and services, adapted to the needs of the modern era, it aspires to function as a living organism, as a cell of knowledge, information and inspiration for everyone.
