A bizarre incident occurred during the debate of the Zurich cantonal council on Monday: when cantonal councilor Hans-Peter Amrein (61, formerly SVP) started his speech shortly before 5 p.m., a woman suddenly appeared behind him and deposited a bag of feces on the lectern. This reports the “Daily Gazette”.
Normally, care is always taken to ensure that parliamentary sessions can be held undisturbed. This Monday, several police officers were positioned at the front entrance of the Zurich exhibition hall, where the meeting took place. Because of the summer temperatures, however, the back door of the hall was open this time – which the unknown woman promptly took advantage of.
Unknown did not want to leave the hall
“I might bring you something, it’s probably droppings from the last hedgehog in our garden,” the woman interrupted Amrein’s speech and put the droppings on the lectern in front of him with a small garden shovel. The politician, who didn’t seem to know what was going on around him, covered the situation with a laugh.
“I move to the other microphone,” said Amrein. Meanwhile, a member of the parliamentary services referred the woman outside. However, the elderly lady suddenly stopped in the doorway because she wanted to put on the shoes she had left there, as reported by the “Tages-Anzeiger”.
Council President disposed of feces herself
However, when the employee of the parliamentary services wanted to take her out, the situation threatened to escalate, according to the newspaper: she raised her shovel in anger. Thanks to a police officer who rushed to help, the situation was resolved and the woman escorted out. The employee then locked the back door and said: “It stays shut now!”
And the feces? It was personally removed by the highest Zurich woman. Council President Esther Guyer (70, Greens) unceremoniously wrapped the hedgehog droppings in a paper towel and disposed of them in the bin. (dzc)
