Student collectives and pro-Palestine movements are spreading protests outside the universities too. While the public assembly at the Pratone was held at the Sapienza in Rome yesterday followingnoon, on May 11th the API (Palestinian Association in Italy) launched the world Keffiyeh day, «the symbol of the Palestinian struggle for self-determination , justice and freedom.” “Wearing the keffiyeh is not just a symbolic gesture, but a way to demonstrate that we are united in the desire for a future in which the Palestinian people can live freely on their own land.”
Meanwhile, the Palestinian Student Movement in Italy calls a public meeting in the square in Rome. The meeting will be held in Largo Agosta, in the Prenestino district, and the organizers’ intentions are to launch «an assembly for discussion, for the reconstruction of what is happening in Italian cities and to relaunch the next mobilizations so as to keep high attention to the Palestinian issue and to counter media propaganda even in the peripheral neighbourhoods”.
Within the universities, however, the Collective of the Sapienza physics faculty has called another public meeting for May 10th during which «we will discuss together with the entire science community the actions to be taken once morest the ongoing genocide, from solidarity to academic boycott”.
In Bologna, however, pro-Gaza tents have been set up since Sunday followingnoon in front of the rectorate of the Alma mater, to «immediately demand an end to the genocide in the Gaza Strip and to send a strong message to our academic and governmental institutions which months now, despite our repeated protests, they continue to fully support Israel and its crimes within the Gaza Strip.” Human rights activist Patrick Zaki will also be present at the rally tomorrow at 1pm. But the date on which attention is focused is May 15, when the Nakba will be remembered.
