The University of Tokyo’s Institute of Industrial Science and the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology will hold the University of Tokyo Komaba Research Campus Open House 2023 in a hybrid format over two days, June 9th (Friday) and 10th (Saturday).

The University of Tokyo Komaba Research Campus Open House is held once a year for specialists and the general public, with the aim of making our research and activities widely known. This year, we will hold various events where you can experience the latest research results by world-class researchers through a hybrid event that combines face-to-face planning on campus and online distribution.
The content is intended to make science more familiar and interesting not only for researchers from companies and other research institutes, but also for elementary, junior high and high school students who will lead the next generation, as well as the general public. We hope that you will visit our campus, or enjoy cutting-edge research from your home or on the go from your computer or smartphone. We look forward to your participation.

*Please make a reservation in advance to visit the campus.
* Depending on the infection status of the new coronavirus infection, there is a possibility that the in-person type will be canceled and it will be held only online.

The latest information on advance reservations, programs, schedules, and formats can be found on the special website.

Special Lecture “Digital Transformation”

Expectations are rising for digital transformation (DX), which will revolutionize the way people live and society should be and create new value through the penetration of digital technologies such as AI, IoT, and big data. At the opening of the Komaba Research Campus this time, as an initiative related to DX at the Institute of Industrial Science and the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, the risks hidden behind the light of the value brought by DX and their solutions, and how DX creates architecture and cities Introduces the impact and potential of

10:00~10:20 Greetings from Director

Professor Toru Okabe, Director of Institute of Industrial Science
Masakazu Sugiyama, Director, Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology

10:20-11:05 Lecture
“Digital Transformation and Dependability”

Professor Kanta Matsuura, Institute of Industrial Science
As we have seen from the experience of the pandemic, the digital transformation of social activities brings various benefits beyond cost reduction. However, it has issues related to security and privacy, as well as issues related to social acceptability, such as increasing power consumption. In this presentation, I will talk about research that aims to establish “dependability” that is supported by various stakeholders by solving these social issues and maximizing their benefits.

11:05~11:50 Lecture
“Possibilities of AI and Big Data in Architecture and Cities”

Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology Yuji Yoshimura Specially Appointed Associate Professor
Advances in digital technology are fundamentally changing our daily lives, urban landscapes, and the way cities are created. The emergence of new types of analysis methods such as machine learning has realized computational volumes that were impossible to rely solely on human eyes and hands, and is beginning to unravel the “hidden order” behind cities. Will these advances in science and technology and the changes they bring affect the way architecture and cities are created? Will “town development using data” enrich our lives? In this lecture, we will explore the possibilities of AI and big data for architecture and cities.
