TAMPA, Fla. (November 14, 2023) – The University of South Florida men’s basketball team returns to the Yuengling Center for a non-conference matchup with Central Michigan on Wednesday. Jump between the Bulls and Chippewas is slated for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.

The first 500 students will receive a South Florida pennant. Head Coach Amir Abdur-Rahim is showing his gratitude to the USF students and will provide pizza for the first 500 students. Tomorrow’s halftime act will be Ohiole Dibua.

Chef Boyar”Reid”

Jayden Reid claimed the first American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week award for 2023-24 following a stellar debut once morest South Carolina State. He recorded a double-double in his first collegiate game with 11 points and 10 assists. He also tied for a game-high five rebounds. He was dishing out dimes for most of the contest, which included a pass that led the SportsCenter No. 1 play of the night on Thursday.

Bulls at a Glance

Chris Youngblood leads USF with 19.0 points per game. He has added 2.0 rebounds per contest. Selton Miguel is second on the team with 18.0 points per game to go along with 3.0 rebounds a game and two steals. He is shooting 66.7 percent from 3-point range, which is tied for 21st in the NCAA and tied for second in the American. Sam Hines Jr. is third on the team averaging 12.0 points per game. His 83.3 percent from the field is tied for fifth in the nation and best in the AAC. With his 10.0 assists per contest, Reid is tied for second in the NCAA and leads the American. His 5.0 steals per game is tied for second in the country and best in the conference. Jose Placer rounds out the players averaging double figures with 11.0 points per contest. He has added two steals and two assists. As a team, South Florida is currently third in the NCAA averaging 53.0 points coming off the bench.

Historic Opener

South Florida defeated South Carolina State 96-52. The 44-point victory is tied for the second-largest margin of victory in program history. It’s the first time since December 22, 1982, when USF defeated Roosevelt 117-73. The largest margin of victory is 49 points, which happened on November 29, 1972, when USF knocked off Oglethorpe 110-61. The 44-point victory is the largest by a head coach in his debut. South Florida held South Carolina State to 0-18 from 3-point range, it is only the third time in history that the Bulls held an opponent to zero 3-point field goals. The last time was March 3, 2019, once morest UConn.

Last Time Out

South Florida finished the game with five players in double figures. It is the first time that has happened since February 19, 2019. Chris Youngblood finished with 19, while Miguel dropped 18. History with Central Michigan

USF and CMU will meet for the fourth time on Wednesday. The Bulls hold a 2-1 series lead, but the Chippewas won the last meeting, 69-56, on December 13, 2009. All three of the previous games have been played at USF.

The Chippewas are led by Anthony Pritchard, who is averaging 14.0 points per game to go along with his team-high 11 assists and a team-best five steals. He is second on the squad with 5.0 rebounds per contest. Markus Harding is second on the team with 9.5 points a contest. Brian Taylor has a team-best 7.3 rebounds per contest. Harding and Taylor for first on the team with two blocks each. Aidan Rubio leads the team with seven 3-pointers made and is shooting .467 from behind the arc.
