A new scanner, developed by the University of Sherbrooke, might more effectively detect neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.
Dr. Roger Lecomte, professor in the department of nuclear medicine and radiobiology at the University of Sherbrooke and founder and scientific director of IR&T inc, is with his team at the origin of this important technological advance. He paints a portrait of it, Saturday, on the show Even on weekends.
According to the professor, this improvement in positron emission tomography makes it possible to take a more precise image of the brain and to target problems more easily.
He points out, however, that despite this greater ability to identify the disease, the shortcomings lie in the treatments available for Alzheimer’s disease.
