The University of Innsbruck has stopped the plagiarism process for the diploma thesis of Women’s Minister Susanne Raab (ÖVP). The university’s press spokesman, Uwe Steger, confirmed corresponding media reports to the APA on Friday. The basis for the decision was the result of an investigation by external experts. There was no further information about the content of the report; in any case, it was not enough to revoke the title.
At the beginning of last year, the “plagiarism hunter” Stefan Weber attested to Raab’s “numerous plagiarism and nonsense” in her diploma thesis in psychology, which she submitted in 2009. The minister had rejected the allegations.
Weber is known for having examined the scientific theses of politicians on several occasions. In 2017, the University of Graz withdrew his doctorate from the then Styrian Economics Councilor Christian Buchmann (ÖVP) following allegations of plagiarism, and Buchmann subsequently resigned. In 2021, the then Labor Minister Christine Aschbacher (ÖVP) announced her resignation after Weber accused her of plagiarism in her dissertation submitted in Bratislava in 2020 and her diploma thesis at the FH Wiener Neustadt. After a review, the FH decided not to revoke his title, and Aschbacher was ultimately allowed to keep the title he had acquired in Slovakia. Plagiarism proceedings initiated against Justice Minister Alma Zadic (Greens) and Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (ÖVP) following allegations by Weber were also discontinued.
