Accused quadruple murderer Bryan Kohberger maintains that he “drove out” that night four University of Idaho students are dead.

Kohberger is accused in the November 2022 deaths of four University of Idaho students. The bodies of Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin were found in an off-campus rental home.

He is charged with four counts of first-degree murder and one count of burglary, to which the judge pleaded not guilty following Kohberger chose to remain silent at his arraignment last year.

Court documents obtained by Court TV read:

“Mr. Kohberger was driving in the early morning hours of November 13, 2022; as he often did to walk and run and/or see the moon and stars. He traveled throughout the area south of Pullman, Washington, west of Moscow , Idaho, including Wawawai Park, drove.”

The document also says that Kohberger intends to present expert testimony to show that his cell phone was not in the area, meaning his vehicle “might not have been the vehicle seen on video along the Moscow-Pullman Highway near Floyd’s Cannabis shop was not captured.”

Kohberger’s defense describes him as “an avid runner and walker.” They claim Kohberger’s cell phone data supports his tendency to “take night drives”.

Last week, the case was back in court over the defense’s survey of prospective jurors. Lawyers gathered to argue whether the recording violated the court’s non-disclosure order that kept much of the evidence under seal and barred either side from making statements regarding the case outside the courtroom. The judge is expected to rule on whether the defense can continue its recording.

Kohberger’s case is due in court on June 27 for a hearing on the Motion of Change of Venue.
