University Federation announces 48-hour strike in Argentina

The National Federation of University-Historical Teachers, Researchers and Creators announced today that it would hold a 48-hour strike on the 20th and 21st of this month to demand salary increases and denounce the measures of the Argentine government.

Said organization specified that this action will continue the fight plan of the Union Front of National Universities, initiated after the worsening of the situation of higher education centers due to the policies of President Javier Milei.

On the other hand, the Federation rejected the approval in the Chamber of Deputies of a norm that declares education as an “essential service” to prevent workers in the sector from exercising their right to protest.

Given the refusal of the Ministry of Human Capital to open a true joint discussion and the persistent imposition of ridiculous increases, it becomes essential to continue making the situation visible and deepen unity with the university community as a whole, says a message from that organization.

In addition, it confirms the decision to hold another march in defense of the public university in September.

The workers also demand the restitution of the Teacher Incentive Fund, the elimination of the income tax and the updating of pensions.

This week, the Front carried out a 72-hour strike that included a rally in front of Congress to express its rejection of the Executive’s intention to prohibit social protest and begin the privatization of the educational system in this South American country.

On the other hand, he condemned the interruption of programs for the delivery of books and computers, the suspension of sending resources to school cafeterias and the paralysis of infrastructure works, among other Milei measures.
