University cooperation that is growing stronger

In a speech on this occasion, Mr. Graue Wiechers praised the excellent cooperation that has existed since 2016 between the universities of the two countries, in particular the Mohammed V University of Rabat and the Autonomous University of Mexico, which has materialized through several agreements and partnerships relating mainly to the exchange of students and professors and the joint organization of academic events.

Mr. Graue Wiechers pointed out that this cooperation also involved collaboration in the production of 42 publications between 2016 and 2021, in addition to an increase in academic production, particularly in the fields of renewable energy, agriculture, biology, life and earth sciences and technologies.

He added that the Autonomous University of Mexico is currently working with more than 16 higher education institutions in Morocco, in addition to regarding 14 other academic institutions with a view to establishing partnerships in the coming years.

For his part, Mr. Lebbar stressed the importance of multiplying initiatives to further develop Moroccan-Mexican relations, notably through the revitalization of academic cooperation.

“The development of our cooperation with this prestigious university is likely to promote distinguished relations between the two countries to raise them to the expected level,” he said.

HM the King’s ambassador indicated that the president of the Mexican University, in support of these efforts, has proposed the signing of a number of agreements between Mexican institutes and universities and their Moroccan counterparts.

The two parties also discussed, during this meeting, the possibilities of establishing a partnership between the Mexican National Autonomous University, one of the largest and most prestigious in Latin America, and the University of Al -Qarawiyyin in Morocco, the first university in the world.

MM Lebbar and Graue Wiechers also mentioned an upcoming visit to Morocco by the president of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, in order to strengthen existing agreements and establish new partnerships and twinnings with Moroccan universities.

The National Autonomous University of Mexico is the most important university institution in Mexico, the largest single-campus university in the two American continents by number of students and the only university in this country to count among its alumni, Nobel laureates. Its campus is also classified by UNESCO as a world heritage site.
