To UNITED STATESseasonal influenza surveillance data for week 44, ending November 4, 2023, is as follows:

Influenza-like illnesses (ILI)During SE44, SG represented 2.9% of reasons for consultation at the national level, which corresponds to the basic level. This rate is increased in 8 of 10 HHS regions (regions 1-6, 8-9). Two regions are above their specific reference level (Region 4 and 6) and one region has reached its reference level (Region 9). The increase in activity concerns all age groups.

Hospitalization for confirmed flu

The number of patients admitted to hospital with laboratory-confirmed influenza in week 44 increased slightly compared to week 43 (>5% change) nationally and in regions 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10.

Mortality: 0.09% of deaths in the week ending November 4, 2023 (week 44) were due to influenza. This percentage remained stable (≤ 0.1 percentage point.

Virology

During SE44, of the 192 viruses reported by public health laboratories, 148 (77.1%) were influenza A viruses and 44 (22.9%) were influenza B viruses. Of the 106 Influenza A viruses subtyped in week 44, 96 (90.6%) were influenza A(H1N1) viruses and 10 (9.4%) were influenza A(H3N2) viruses.

The positivity rate of influenza diagnostic tests done in clinical laboratories is 3%. The highest rates are found in Regions 6 (4.8%), 9 (4.7%), and 4 (4.0%).
