This summer, the United States recorded a case of poliomyelitis, a young American of 20 years, while the disease has been eradicated in the majority of countries in the world – with the exception of Pakistan and Afghanistan -, according to the UN. The virus has also been detected in New York’s sewage, suggesting wider contamination. While there is no cure for this disease, state health officials are urging people to get vaccinated quickly.
