“United States Assistance in Humanitarian Relief and Disaster Response in Peru Affirmed by Ambassador Lisa Kenna”

United States Ambassador to Peru Lisa Kenna addressed the President of the Republic Dina Boluarte to reaffirm the United States’ commitment to address the needs of the South American country in situations of humanitarian assistance and disaster response (HA/DR).

Ambassador Kenna highlighted the continuous cooperation of the West Virginia Air National Guard, which transported various members of the U.S. Armed Forces to Peru in one of its C-17 planes. They will share their experience and best practices in aeromedical evacuation, rescue, and water sanitation to alleviate human suffering.

In addition, the C-17 plane transported an ambulance for the Peruvian Fire Department free of charge, which saved US$10,000.

Moreover, the West Virginia Air National Guard donated 6,000 bottles of water for families who have been affected by the passage of Cyclone Yaku.

Additionally, the U.S. Embassy, with the support of the U.S. Southern Command, will donate approximately US$100,000 in HA/DR assets to meet the needs of the Government of Peru in this area.

Furthermore, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) increased its contribution to Save the Children by US$500,000 in order to meet the immediate water and sanitation needs of 4,500 households living at government-furnished shelters, including the supply of water tanks and chlorination services for these tanks, cleaning supplies for sanitary facilities and the possible construction of latrines.

In the coming weeks, the USAID will also increase its donation to the World Food Programme by $300,000 to provide critical transportation and logistical support to the Government of Peru and INDECI for the delivery of 1,350 metric tons of humanitarian aid items to the areas affected by floods until June 31.

Likewise, the USAID allocated US$277,916 to deploy an Americas Support Team (AST) to assist the United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination (UNDAC) team in Piura and Lambayeque regions in the last three weeks of April 2023.
