United States: 3 dead in a shooting in Detroit, a suspect arrested

Police in Detroit, in the north of the United States, announced on Monday August 29 that they had arrested the author of a shooting that left three dead and one injured the day before. These four people were targeted “randomly”, authorities said.

A manhunt. In the north of the United States, the Detroit police launched this Sunday August 28, 2022 an important search device in order to find the author of a shooting which left three dead and one injured.

James White, the Michigan city’s police chief, told media that the first three victims – two women and a man – were shot at different locations in the city in the early hours of the morning.

The shootings appear to have been carried out “completely at random”, explained the police chief during a press conference. One victim was “waiting for the bus, another was walking her dog and another was just on the street,” he said.

Around 9 p.m. local time, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan announced that the suspect had been found and arrested. “We have it,” the mayor wrote on Twitter. He said that with “crucial information from the community” and “strong support” from law enforcement, the suspect was taken into custody without incident.

A second shooting in Texas

Also on Sunday, authorities in the city of Houston, Texas announced that three people had been shot and killed there by a man who had first set fire to their home.

“This suspect unfortunately (..) set fire to several residences, waited for residents to come out and fired at them,” Houston Police Chief Troy Finner said at a press conference. He added that firefighters battling the blazes had to take cover from the shooter at the same time.

The police eventually intervened and shot the man dead. According to the Houston police chief, the shooter had recently received an eviction order, which “may have been a trigger.”
