United States – Northeastern University reported yesterday, Saturday, that the American police arrested regarding 100 pro-Palestine demonstrators this morning and broke up their sit-in that was held in front of the university’s campus in Boston.
The university wrote in a post on the “X” platform: “As part of this eviction operation, the police arrested regarding a hundred people, and the students who showed their affiliation cards to Northeastern University were released, while those who refused to prove their affiliation were arrested.”
The university claimed in its post that the demonstrators chanted “violent, insulting and anti-Semitic” slogans such as “Kill the Jews” during their protest last night on campus.
The university announced its intention to subject the students participating in the demonstration to disciplinary procedures within the university, and not to legal penalties.
American media reported the arrest of more than 100 pro-Palestinian demonstrators last week at Columbia University, and at least 45 people at Yale University on Monday during pro-Palestinian protests.
Columbia University witnessed widespread protests to denounce the violations of the Israeli army, and to pressure the university to withdraw its financial investments from companies and institutions that support Israel.
The campuses of prestigious American universities have become a place to express anger at the Israeli operation in the Gaza Strip because of the large number of Palestinian civilian casualties and because of American aid to its ally, Israel.
