“United against the attacks” –

Gabriel Imperial

France, Germany and the United Kingdom united against Tehran’s possible actions towards Israel. The three European countries, through their leaders, are standing firm against Iran’s possible retaliation against Tel Aviv after the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, and are promising a strong reaction if a large-scale attack on the Jewish state were to be launched. Emmanuel Macron, Olaf Scholz and Keir Starmer warned the Islamic Republic in a joint statement without mincing words: “We are deeply concerned by the escalation of tensions in the Middle East region and united in our commitment to de-escalation and regional stability,” the three leaders began in the statement. “In this context, and in particular, we call on Iran and its allies to refrain from attacks that could further increase regional tensions and jeopardize the opportunity to agree on a ceasefire and the release of hostages.”

No more attacks on civilians. Tajani's request to Israel. And on Ukraine...

No room, therefore, for Tehran and its partners in the Middle East to make rash moves. Instead, the leaders emphasize, let’s move forward with negotiations: “The fighting must end now and all hostages still held by Hamas must be released. The people of Gaza need urgent and unrestricted delivery and distribution of aid,” the leaders of France, Germany and the United Kingdom wrote in the letter. “We welcome the tireless work of our partners in Qatar, Egypt and the United States to reach a ceasefire agreement. We endorse the joint statement by His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani, President al-Sisi and President Biden calling for the immediate resumption of negotiations.” As reconstructed by Francesca Salvatore and Il Giornale, Paris, Berlin and London want to avoid an escalation and see the negotiations that will start in a few days as a turning point for the entire region. If it were not for – and this justifies the harsh tone towards Tehran – that Tel Aviv has already estimated that Iran and Hezbollah will attack the Jewish state before the summit and the possible ceasefire. According to the Israeli daily Haaretz, Israel and its apparatus are on maximum alert and are preparing for all scenarios. The retaliation for the death of Haninyeh, despite Tehran’s postponements and the will of all the actors in the field not to want to further expand the war in the region, could be devastating and open new and incurable wounds.
