Members of the Unitary Platform announced this Monday that, following a process of debate and consultations between the organizations that make it up, it was agreed to hold primary elections in 2023 to choose a presidential candidate.

Through a statement, the Venezuelan opposition also indicated that it had decided to appoint Omar Barboza executive secretary of the Unitary Platform.

«Dr. Omar Barboza has been designated as executive secretary of the Unitarian Platform for the purpose of contributing to the harmonious development of the debate and strengthening of unity. Also, Dr. Barboza will have a political and technical team that will accompany him for this purpose, “they said in the statement.

On Sunday, members of that organization pointed out that Barboza will be a facilitator of the decisions and operations of the leaders who oppose Nicolás Maduro. Also as a mediator, although without official spokesperson, unless the parties decide.

They also indicated that the platform will have regional and municipal instances, as well as international chapters in all possible countries.

They pointed out that as of Monday’s announcements, they will begin an in-depth consultation process with the entire country in order to jointly build the mechanism for choosing the single candidate.

“We reiterate that the united struggle has as its fundamental objective to achieve political change, understanding that it is the only true way to stop the suffering of millions of Venezuelans,” they affirmed.
