After the decommissioning of the San Power Plant (No. 2 Nuclear Power Plant), it is equivalent to reducing Taiwan’s clean renewable energy power generation by one-third.” Siefort further pointed out that if the second and third nuclear power plants operate for another 10 years and decommission the coal-fired power plants of the same power, the carbon reduction effect will be comparable to Kenya’s annual fossil fuel emissions.
In fact, Taiwan has been committed to building renewable energy such as wind power and solar power in the past 10 years, but this has not achieved the goal of reducing its carbon footprint. Nearly 90% of the people still rely on fossil fuels for power supply.
