Unions Reveal Cora Belgium’s Struggles and Need for Austerity Plans

A point of view shared by the unions: “Yes, it’s clear, Cora is next“, confides Myriam Delmée to us. “The discourse since this summer and all Cora resales in other countries has changed“, explains the president of the Setca. “We are no longer told that we might continue to live with Cora as it exists today. Management flatly tells us that either we find money or we are heading towards bankruptcy.”

According to Myriam Delmée, the management of Cora Belgium would do everything to make the brand attractive: “ You have to dress the bride to look sexy. They want an austerity plan to be able to sell followingwards. We no longer have any doubt that the Louis Delhaize group wants to resell its Cora Belgium activities.”

But what does the brand ask of its employees? “To tighten our belts,” explains the trade unionist, “to eliminate a whole series of benefits negotiated in recent years such as supplements in the event of illness and seniority leave. We are asking them to tighten their belts to be able to recover money and reduce salary costs so that the deficit, the recurring losses, are less significant and so that we can hope to find a buyer for Cora.
