The unions demand the “pure and simple” withdrawal of the “anti-breakers” bill
No disruption on the SNCB network
In Brussels, the Stib expects disruptions all day, without being able to estimate the extent of the movement at this stage. Travelers are invited to plan, if they can, alternative solutions to public transport to get around that day. Travelers will be informed in real time on the company’s various communication media (social networks, apps, website, etc.). Customer Care will be available from 6 a.m. also by telephone, at 070 23 2000.
In Wallonia, the TEC advises you to anticipate your trips by consulting the deleted routes which will be visible via the site’s time search letec.be and the application of the TEC from Tuesday October 3 at 4 p.m.
On the SNCB side, no disruption is expected, indicated the spokesperson for the railway company, Dimitri Temmerman. The unions have not filed strike notice for staff.
In the north of the country, De Lijn indicates that tram and bus traffic throughout Flanders and in Brussels will be disrupted. Across the north of the country, an average of 58% of buses and trams will be running this Thursday, De Lijn predicts. Adapted timetables have been put in place and can be consulted online.
Brussels Airport expects a very limited impact for now, although minor delays cannot be ruled out.
“Resistance is not a crime”
Justice Minister Vincent Van Quickenborne’s bill gives judges the ability to ban rioters from protesting for a certain period of time. Some fear that this ban will become a lever to also restrict peaceful demonstrations.
“We are regarding to prevent the government from approving the Van Quickenborne law,” declare the CSC, the FGTB and the CGSLB as well as Greenpeace, the Human Rights League and 11.11.11 in the leaflet of the protest action of the “Resistance is not a crime” coalition.
Participants will first meet at 10:00 a.m. at Van Quickenborne’s office, where various organizations will also speak. Then, they will go in procession to the headquarters of the left-wing parties of the federal government: PS and Vooruit and Ecolo and Groen. The procession will finally break up at Place Rouppe.
