Unions and Delhaize Workers Take Action: Brussels Stores Closed in Protest Against Management

Unions and Delhaize workers have once more decided to show their dissatisfaction with management by organizing new actions in Brussels. Eighteen stores are thus closed in Brussels, said Monday Fabienne Meulemans, Setca permanent trade sector, confirming information from RTBF.

According to the socialist trade unionist, letters were already sent to certain workers on July 7, announcing that their position would soon disappear, “between August and December, or even a little later”, and that four weeks before the start of their notice, they will receive a new letter to inform them. “This goes one step further in the management approach,” regrets Ms. Meulemans.

The ordinance prohibiting strike pickets ended on July 24 in Brussels, which is why unions and workers have decided to carry out new actions.

A social conflict has affected Delhaize since March because the group announced the transformation of 128 stores into franchises.

Since then, unions have kept stores closed regularly. Delhaize is challenging this in court, through unilateral motions.
