Union Saint-Gilloise in the Europa League after its elimination against Slavia Prague

Union Saint-Gilloise lost 0-1 to Slavia Prague on Tuesday night at Parc Astrid, in the second leg of the 3rd preliminary round of the Champions League. Already beaten 3-1 in the first leg, the Unionists were eliminated from the European competition by a realistic Czech team and will play in the Europa League.

In the first five minutes of play, the Czechs put intense pressure on the Unionists, without a goal being scored. Slavia insisted and forced a good save from Moris, who was not in good shape during the first leg, on a sudden strike from El Hadji Malick Diouf (13th). Shortly before half-time, the Brussels team hit the Czech post, Promise David taking a cross from Machida on the crossbar of the goal defended by Antonin Kinsky (40th). In the second half, despite territorial domination, the Union were lacking in the final move, struggling to create clear-cut chances.

In the last ten minutes, it was finally the Czechs who sealed the Belgian hopes, with a goal from Vaclav Jurecka (84th). Union will have to raise its head at home on Friday against Charleroi (8:45 p.m.), during the fourth day of the Jupiler Pro League, after having suffered three defeats in a row in all competitions. In Europe, the Brussels team are relegated to the league phase of the Europa League.
