Union rules out strike at Dodgers Stadium

THE ANGELS (AP) — The union that represents workers at a utility company at Dodger Stadium agreed Friday not to strike during the All-Star Game or its related events.

United Here Local 11 and service company Compass Group and its subsidiary Levy Restaurantes this week achieved what the union described as “significant progress” in contract negotiations.

As a result, the union has agreed not to call a strike during All-Star-related events beginning Saturday and ending with Tuesday night’s game.

“Both parties look forward to a successful All-Star Game and continued negotiations,” union spokeswoman Maria Hernandez said in a statement.

The union intends to finalize what it describes as “a fair new contract”, although it has never given details of its demands.

He noted that Unite Here members had earlier voted to call a strike during the All-Star festivities.

Levy employs nearly 1,500 waiters, bartenders, cooks and dishwashers at the stadium, which is hosting the All-Star Game for the first time since 1980.

The union represents more than 32,000 hospitality-related workers in Southern California and Arizona.
