Abu Dhabi: The UAE has unified the fines charged for those who stay in the country even following their visa has expired. The unified penalty system will be applicable to those who have expired on their visit and residence visas following their arrival in the country. A penalty of AED 50 will be charged for each day of overstay following the expiry of the visa or the grace period for visa renewal.
At the same time, Minister of State for Finance Dr Bhagwant Kisan Rao had announced the other day that the plan to send money to UPI holders in India using NRI accounts and foreign phone numbers will come into effect for expatriates in the UAE. At present, only Indian phone numbers can be used for this type of payment.
Non-residents can transfer money through UPI by scanning the QR code. The project, which is very helpful for expatriates, will be implemented in 10 countries, including from the Gulf region. UAE, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, USA and UK are included. In the first phase, UPI service will be available in UAE, Oman, Saudi and Qatar. The project will be implemented ahead of the G20 summit hosted by India.
