CGI announces a new, improved and unified platform for newsrooms. It is the result of the integration of CGI’s complete OpenMedia newsroom solution with Microsoft Teams.
The goal of this platform is to enable newsrooms to address workflow challenges arising from an increase in broadcast channels as well as remote newsgathering and production.
In line with the growing digital transformation priorities of recent years, more broadcasters globally are adopting central communication platforms, the company says in a statement. They can thus promote collaboration between production teams, while working from multiple channels and remotely.
These platforms can help solve common challenges related to data sharing and collaboration workflows. For example, critical data entered from a remote location may not appear in the newsroom’s central systems. This data is therefore not accessible to the majority of users. A unified communications platform overcomes such barriers and enables more effective data sharing and collaboration.
In concrete terms, the solution integrates the chat and videoconferencing functionalities of the Microsoft Teams workspace with CGI’s OpenMedia solution. This helps streamline communication flows for reporters and producers in newsrooms.
“More than ever, there’s a greater chance that news teams will be physically dispersed and working on different stories simultaneously from multiple channels,” he says. The challenges of this evolution have been exacerbated by the circumstances of the past two years, accelerating the need for a more flexible approach to news production and delivery. A reliable and unified communications platform has become a business imperative. We believe the integration of CGI’s OpenMedia solution with Microsoft Teams is a great step forward for news teams around the world,” said Michael Pfitzner, Vice President, Newsroom Solutions at CGI.
CGI’s OpenMedia solution is part of a comprehensive set of newsroom and broadcast solutions that CGI offers broadcasters around the world to optimize workflows and production management across various media channels, including television, radio as well as online channels and social networks.
