Unidentified Parcel Alerts: Reports of Suspicious Packages Across Korea

Postal authorities have decided to temporarily suspend imports of similar international mail.

According to the Ulsan Fire Headquarters and Ulsan Dongbu Police Station, at around 12:29 noon on the 20th at a welfare facility for the disabled in Ulsan, three facility officials who opened a yellow package presumed to be international mail from Taiwan complained of dizziness and shortness of breath and were transferred to the hospital.

Fortunately, the symptoms improved and it is known that they will be discharged on the 22nd.

As a result of analysis by the Agency for Defense Development, no hazardous substances were detected in the mail.

There are also reports of unidentified mail being delivered in other areas such as Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Daejeon.

According to the Seoul Seocho Police Station, a report was received from Bangbae-dong at around 9:25 am on the 21st that “an unordered package from Taiwan was delivered” and the police instructed them to return it to the post office.

Police commandos checked the package around 2:00 PM and found that the contents were odorless, paste-like items.

The military recovered the parcel for accurate compositional analysis.

Similar parcels were found at the Myeong-dong Central Post Office and Eunpyeong Post Office in Seoul that followingnoon, and the military began to retrieve them.

Around 11 a.m. on the same day, a report was received that a similar mail had arrived at a factory in Cheoin-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do.

The recipient of the mail, which is believed to have been sent from Taiwan, was the name of a foreigner not related to this factory.

The original finder checked the mail and found no contents.

The police conducted a detailed inspection in preparation for the possibility that there might have been gas, but did not find anything unusual.

As unidentified mails were delivered one following another, the police cautioned once morest packages with yellow or black mail envelopes marked ‘CHUNGHWA POST’ and from ‘POBox 100561-003777, Taipei Taiwan’.

If you receive a similar package, do not open it and ask to report it to the nearest police station or 112 immediately.

The Korea Post decided to temporarily suspend the importation of similar international mail items and deliver similar items already brought into Korea only when safety has been confirmed.
