UniCredit plans to increase shareholder remuneration by 40%, following the entity has closed the 2022 financial year with a net profit of 5,227 million euros, 47.7% above the profits recorded the previous year, which the Italian bank has described as “its best result in a decade”.
In this way, the entity has announced that, subject to the authorization of shareholders and supervisors, it intends to increase the distribution among its shareholders by 40% compared to last year, up to 5,250 million euros.
Specifically, UniCredit intends to distribute 1,910 million euros through a cash dividend and another 3,340 million with a repurchase of its own shares in order to offer sustainable and attractive returns while preserving the soundness of the capital.
In the last financial year, UniCredit obtained a net profit of 5,227 million euros, 47.7% above the result recorded by the largest bank in Italy in 2021.
The entity’s turnover reached 20,343 million euros in the year, 13.6% more, including a growth of 18.6% in net interest income, up to 10,692 million, while commissions contributed 6,841 million , 1% more, and intermediation 2,574 million, 65.6% more.
For its part, the Italian entity allocated 1,894 million euros to provision for credit risk in the year, compared to 1,634 million in the previous year.
Between October and December, UniCredit obtained a net profit of 1,457 million euros, more than double the 668 million profit in the same period of 2021, while the bank’s revenues grew by 29.2%, to 5,719 million.
At the end of the year, the transalpine entity had a CET1 basic capital ratio of 16%, compared to 15.41% in the third quarter.
“UniCredit delivered a record set of financial results that demonstrate significant progress in our ability to drive excellent performance throughout the cycle,” said Andrea Orcel, UniCredit’s CEO.
