Panthers Capture Third Straight MVC Tournament Title with Thrilling Comeback Victory
The University of Northern Iowa Panther volleyball team dominated, capturing their third consecutive Missouri Valley Conference Tournament Championship and securing their ticket to the NCAA Tournament. UNI unleashed a resurgence, rallying from down eight points in the fourth set to secure a thrilling 3-1 victory over challenge from the UIC Flames.
The win marks UNI’s 20th conference tournament title.
UNI battled hard in the first set – which saw 15 ties and four lead changes. Both UNI and UIC displayed strong offenses. The Panthers clawed ahead.
UNI established control from start to finish in the second set, closing 25-20 to take a 2-0 lead. The Panthers built a six-point lead before holding off a late push by the Flames.
UIC emerged dominant in the third set. UNI found it challenging to contain the Flames, who leaked only two attack errors. The Panthers cut the Flames’ lead to 15-12 on a Reese Booth ace, but were unable to stop UIC.
