In an uncensored interview with Chris Cuomo, TikTok influencer Baylen Dupree, known for using her platform to raise awareness regarding Tourette syndrome, surprised the host with her spontaneity and unpredictable tics. Throughout the conversation, the 21-year-old mightn’t help but utter involuntary obscenities and uncontrolled gestures as part of her condition, leading Cuomo to struggle to maintain his composure on his NewsNation show.
During the course of the interview, Dupree, who has 9 million followers, exhibited a series of involuntary tics that included insults and gestures toward Cuomo.
In one of the highlights, Dupree interrupted his own speech detailing the online harassment he has suffered since rising to fame to express how malicious people revealed his location and threatened to burn down his house. Dupree noted that such a level of hostility has required police intervention at his home, generating a reaction of bewilderment and concern from Cuomo.
Chris Cuomo mightn’t contain his laughter at Baylen Dupree’s inadvertent comments
Before the interview, Cuomo had admitted that he initially thought Dupree was a “great comedic actress” who was faking her disorder in search of attention. However, her perception changed and he decided to broadcast the interview live to showcase what he considered the young woman’s “bravery.” In fact, Cuomo began the interview by confessing to Baylen that he was part of the group of people who considered his actions to be completely voluntary, which sparked annoyance on the networks.
The comments got worse because Cuomo let out a loud laugh when Dupree began saying things like “Fuck Chris,” “You little crybaby,” “Buy your own cookie, you fat ass.” It didn’t take long for Cuomo to regain his composure, but he let out a laugh once more when Baylen gave him the middle finger. Many people considered Chris’s attitude disrespectful, but many others defended him, arguing that it was difficult not to laugh at Baylen’s comments.

Despite these awkward moments, Baylen managed to express her desire to inspire others not to feel ashamed of uncontrollable tics. She shared stories of people who have approached her for support and understanding, such as parents of children who bring their partners with the controversial syndrome and do not know how to act or children who have been expelled from school for breaking their homework.
Cuomo praised Dupree’s bravery, telling him he loved the story he was sharing. He welcomed the publicity his talk generated, even as he accused some media outlets of being “nasty” by falsely suggesting Dupree had lost control during the show.

Despite the challenges she faces, Dupree has not only found a way to live with her disorder, but has also created a community of support and awareness regarding Tourette syndrome, highlighting the importance of combating the stigma associated with this condition.
Tourette syndrome is a neurological condition that, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), affects up to 1.4 million children and adults in the United States. Dupree was officially diagnosed with the disease in 2018, although she had signs of it since her childhood, which worsened during the pandemic.
