If the water suddenly stopped flowing at the Ecolys park taps on Sunday, starting at 5 p.m., it was not because of a leak in a large-gauge distribution pipe. This is the astonishing conclusion to which the Société Wallonne des Eaux (SWDE) came to, on Tuesday, at the end of the followingnoon, at the end of a new day of probing the pipes of the network connecting the water catchment of Rhisnes at the Suarlée water tower, which supplies the economic park. “We have a mysterious consumer who was able to empty the Suarlée water tower in a few hours and, in all likelihood, it is neither the Ecolys Business Village nor the Solidarity Festival”comments the spokesperson for the SWDE, Benoît Moulin.
How is it possible ? For the time being, no one understands, apart from the fact that the activity of the company, which has managed the feat of siphoning off the water tower in record time, delivering 60 m3 of volume per hour, cannot than being industrial.
On Tuesday, the work of the SWDE teams therefore consisted of restocking the water tower, by truck. An upgrade that restored the water to its level of flow and pressure before the cut.
In the morning, the SWDE had also managed to restore an acceptable flow by connecting to its network a pipe from Vivaqua (the public water operator in the Brussels Region), which has the Modave catchment and the Tailfer station, in Profondeville. , which has been transforming raw water from the Meuse into drinking water for half a century.
Before concluding that there were no leaks, the SWDE had to spend an awful lot of time listening to the flow of water in the pipes, using a stethoscope, which works very well on small sections but is more complicated on bigger pipes. In any case, there was no question of opening the road.
The SWDE will now carry out the investigation in order to identify the crazy consumer. “We will eventually find out, by raising the meters, further indicates Benoît Moulin. But Our wish is also to know the reasons for such abnormal consumption, and penalizing for others, so that this situation does not happen once more.” Because the business center, through its administrator Paul de Sauvage, deplores a prejudice, in terms of image but especially economic. The day before, the Ibis hotel had to cancel dozens of room reservations.
The person responsible for this long outage of more than 24 hours might be required to compensate the injured parties.
