It was a citizen who made the first macabre discovery around 12:30 p.m. and who contacted the authorities.

The body of a man in his late thirties was then in the courtyard of a residential building on rue Notre-Dame-des-Anges, near rue Saint-Anselme. The man, who did not have his papers on him, might not be identified.

A security perimeter was then set up to allow investigators to analyze the scene and shed light on the circumstances of the tragedy.

But by doing a “neighborhood survey”, the Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ) discovered a second victim, in a dwelling in the same building. This time it is a 58-year-old man.

“It is not yet clear whether the two deaths are prima facie related. We are treating them separately for the moment,” explains Marie-Pier Rivard, spokesperson for the SPVQ.

It was not possible to know if traces of violence had been found on the bodies of the victims. All hypotheses are considered for the moment, assures the police force.

The two remains were found near the building of the organization PECH, which helps people who are marginalized, disadvantaged or struggling with mental health problems.
