The labor market in Upper Austria remains stable and is still characterized by low unemployment. In February, 34,008 people were registered as unemployed in Upper Austria. This corresponds to an unemployment rate of 4.7 percent and is slightly below February 2022.
Across Austria, seven percent were unemployed, with the federal states of Vienna (leading the field with ten percent), Carinthia and Burgenland above the Austrian average, and all others below. Upper Austria is on the level of the tourism federal states in the west of the country.
The number of employees in Upper Austria is still increasing at 691,000, the number of unemployed has remained practically the same. And of these 34,000 people, around 8,500 have a re-employment promise from their original employer.
For the managing director of the Upper Austria Labor Market Service, Gerhard Straßer, the current figures suggest that “international and national framework conditions are having a slight impact on Upper Austria for the first time”. In the construction sector in particular, small and medium-sized companies specializing in private residential construction are affected by the reluctance to invest. The industrial state of Upper Austria is still doing well on the labor market. “The search for personnel remains a challenge for many,” says Straßer. The number of vacancies fell slightly.
The number of long-term unemployed who have been without a job for more than a year continues to fall sharply. It is 6414 affected, a third below the number of February in 2022.
